Lesson Plan
Objectives
Students will become familiar with the Civil Rights Era by evaluating violations of the 14th and 15th amendments. Students will analyze these violations by analyzing the supreme court case Brown V. Board of Education, voter intimidation tactics used in the South, and by studying the Civil Rights leader Rosa Parks and her involvement in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. These concepts will tie into the Day One lesson by highlighting King's stance of non-violence. Students will have to demonstrate their understanding by pinpointing specific examples of non-violence carried out by the African American community in the South. Students will have to understand how exactly the 14th and 15th amendments were violated and demonstrate their understanding.
